Conquering Fear Through Scripture

Conquering fear is what we will explore on today’s blog.

This is crucial for those of us who are serious about wanting to live the abundant life that Christ died to give us.

Way too many of us who identify as Christians, who believe in the miracle of the Resurrection, allow fear to dictate how we live our lives.

Now abundant living as we mean it, has very little to do with material wealth.

Spiritual wealth is what we are after and fear is its stumbling block.

Radical Truths For Conquering Fear

There are two revelations about fear that can compel us to finally take steps to be rid of it.

The first is hard to accept but true nonetheless – that is that fear is a choice.

Yes, in fact, indulge us here and say this out loud: “Fear is a choice”.

Say it slowly if you must.

Better even, pray about it. Ask Holy Spirit to confirm this for you if you hesitate to take our word for it.

When we sit with this and acknowledge that we have fear because somewhere along the way, we embraced it, we realize that we can determine to do the opposite.

Breaking free from the shackled fear has us under may not be as easy as slicing cake, but ease is not a prerequisite to this necessity.

The next revelation is that fear is fuel to the enemy.

Fear is to the enemy as praise is to God.

The devil has no hold at all on a person who lacks fear.

It’s the essential ingredient for him to run a muck in our lives.

Fear also is the root of all other evils.

The seven deadly sins of Christianity(and others) are all rooted in fear.

The Relatability of Fear

We have all encountered fear at different points while here on earth.

Some we overcome and others overwhelm us.

Some come as new fears and some are latent within us, sometimes unidentified because of old unaddressed wounds.

Others come from what we’ve been told or inherited based on the experiences of others.

A young child for example will scream hysterically at the sight of a lizard, simply because of observed behaviour.

Another will chase and hunt down the same lizard because mommy and daddy has never exhibited fear of them.

Fear can be a helpful signal too.

There is raw trepidation resulting from imminent danger and this can spring us into a fight or flight response that can ultimately be life-saving.

Still, more often than not, we end up fearing scenarios that are in actuality, non-existent.

We allow these fears to paralyze us and to limit our potential.

So many great, often God-given ideas never materialize because of fear that has taken root in our lives.

It comes in, gets comfortable and can even alter our personality.

This is especially tragic when we consider just how often we are warned against the futility of giving in to fear in the bible.

How The Bible Helps Us With Conquering Fear

God goes to great lengths to communicate the futility of fear to us.

It is as if He would desperately like for us to take heed and embrace this.

It is an instruction, “Fear Not”.

Fear then is a sin. Think about it… When we disobey God’s instructions, we sin.

Now we can’t be blamed for creating or inviting fear into our lives.

Fear does as fear does BUT we do not have to entertain or embrace it.

Again, we get a choice in what we anchor ourselves to.

If this has been a giant in your life, you need not worry.

In His grace, God has gifted us so many scriptures to help free us from the bondage of fear.

Today, we will share just 31 verses to encourage us to be fearless.

They will be broken down in weeks to make it a little easier for you to follow.
