Today we are journaling Psalm 5:3, a beautiful morning prayer penned by King David.
We will use our favorite S.O.A.P bible study method.
To clarify, the acronym stands for Scripture, Observation, Application (sometimes Affirmation too) and Prayer.
This particular method causes deep reflection. It is such an awesome way to squeeze a lot out of scripture.
Here goes:
Scripture
3 O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
Psalm 5:3
Observation – Psalm 5:3
This is a beautiful expression of praise by King David.
He shows awe and reverence for his Creator and Lord.
From the jump, his word choice reveals a tender tone.
King David made it a point to pray in the morning.
He shows that he is intentional about this time with God.
There is a sense of gratitude as He approaches the Lord in prayer.
He ensures God hears from him and he does so with expectancy.
King David makes preparation. This time is clearly sacred to him.
Not only does he offer up a sacrifice of prayer, he awaits a response.
The sense of expectancy is great.
It indicates that this is a habit.
This also indicates that God tends to respond.
There is a mutual exchange which fills David with joy and anticipation.
Application of Psalm 5:3
Much like King David, we ought to start our days off with prayer.
Here at Stating Faith, we believe there is no better way to start off the day.
Our expression of gratitude and thanksgiving will set the tone for all we must do.
It is also important for us to recognize the gift and privilege of life in each morning.
Like David, we ought to approach our Abba with a sense of wonder and expectancy.
We ought not to just pray drab prayers out of routine or a sense of obligation.
Let us approach the throne room with reverence.
Let us take that time to actually wait for a response.
God wants to participate in this exchange.
He eagerly wants to meet with us too.
Who better to give us our marching orders for the day?
Prayer
Good Morning God. What a privilege it is to be blessed by You another day. Thank You for this precious gift of life. I made it on the wake-up list yet again and for this I praise Your name! Lord, I delight in Your Presence. I am so grateful to meet with You again. Thank You for the blessing of fresh air and for the calm splendor of the morning dew. Thank You for the sweet chorus of the birds outside my window. I praise You as they do Yahweh. Thank You for the promise that lies in this day. I get a brand new canvas and I ask Father, for Your instructions. Holy Spirit, what will we do today? What assignments do You have for me, and how should I plan out my tasks? Show me I pray, how to add value to someone's day. Help me not to miss any lessons. Keep me attuned to Your voice this day and even the whole week. Spring forth the fruit of Your Spirit in me. Help me to shine the light of Christ today. Continue to guide me and grant me Your favor. Help me to put on and keep wearing the armor and shield me and my family from all the enemy's plans. In Jesus's name. Amen
