Why We Need To Wear The Armor Of God Daily

Today, we are going talk about wearing the armor of God everyday.

This comes fresh off our last post about standing firm.

Oh how we need to suit up spiritually to stand firm in our faith as believers of the living God!

Let’s dive into today’s scripture:

Scripture – The Armor of God

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Ephesians 6:13

Observation

The verse starts off with a word that immediately tells us we need to see what it is there for.

We see just a few verses back that Paul here has already expounded on the reason we need our armor.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Ephesians 6:10-12

Paul urges us to not neglect this very important aspect of our spiritual walk.

We must clad ourselves with “every piece of God’s armor” (NLT). This has to be a deliberate move on our part. It is incumbent upon us to know the different pieces of armor:

The devil is constantly coming at us in the spiritual realm and Paul is giving us the proper response to certain warfare.

We cannot effectively fight this invisible war in the physical realm.

In our own power, we will not be able to withstand the evil day.

This verse tells us too that we are on a mission.

God’s people have been given the call to stand. The use of ‘stand firm’ denotes a posture of strength. It is a victory stance where we defend our faith with courage.

‘Having done all’ incidentally requires not us to do, but God who enables us.

Our ‘doing’ then lies in worshipping the God who cannot ever fail, as prescribed by Paul in the verses that follow.

Application

This verse ought to empower us. It is a prudent piece of biblical instruction that every believer should take to heart.

We must not fall into the trap of spiritual apathy. This scripture can help us avoid the risk of becoming lukewarm Christians.

It calls us to intentionality.

To worship with fervor and to embrace praise as a lifestyle.

Believers then and now, experience the fullness of God’s glory in our lives by this kind of active response.

We ought to allow Paul’s impassioned call here. Doing so will light a spiritual fire in us, leading us to a more spiritually fulfilled life.

Prayer – The Armor of God

Most High God, I thank You today
for Your goodness and might.
It is only through You that I get
access to my spiritual armor.
Convict me through the power
of Your Spirit to wear it daily.
Please help me to wear the truth of
my eternal salvation like a helmet.
Dress me with Your girdle of truth
and the breastplate of righteousness.
Let me never forget Your grace-gift
of the impenetrable helmet of salvation.
Cover my feet with the gospel of peace
and fill my hands with the shield of faith
and the double-edged sword of Your Word.
Meet with me Emmanuel as I pray to You.
Pull me into constant communion with You.
Thank You Holy Spirit for praying for me
when I know not what to say and fill empty
pauses and exquisite silence with Your
perfect groans.
Thank You for being my constant cover
and thank You that no weapon the enemy
forms against me will ever prosper.
I choose to stand firm and serve You all the
days of my life until I dwell in Your house
forever and ever.
In Jesus' name.

Sermon On The Armor of God

Author Priscilla Sharer, has a really convicting sermon on the armor of God.

It’s a beautiful and powerful teaching.

Today’s Song

Our recommendation for today comes from Kanye West’s choir.

He surely brought a unique flavor and his lyrical genius to this song.

It is an awesome anthem to use to encourage us to wear the armor of God.
