Here at Stating Faith, we will post daily biblical affirmations to help strengthen and activate our faith.

I am a big believer in the concept of word, sound, power.

Word, Sound, Power, as I have heard it chanted by Rastafarians here in my home country, has resonated with me in a profound way. It speaks to the subconscious power of  words.

As a believer in God, the Creator and as a devout Christ Follower, this concept appeals to me on an even deeper level.

'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.'  - John 1:1 ESV.

The apostle, John, continues to explain that all things were made through Him, Jesus Christ. In Genesis, we see that nothing existed before God spoke. He literally spoke everything into existence.

We are all made in His image. I believe that just as our Creator formed everything in nature just by speaking, we too, being  bearers of His image, possess that power. Surely, we do not have the same power. We are not God. Still, we do have word, sound, power, even if on a much more miniscule level.

Our Word Choice

So, our words hold immense power.

Proverbs 18:21 tells us plainly that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue”.

We can use our words to speak life and effect positive change. Likewise, we can do the opposite. We can speak fear-laden words and we can wield our tongues to cause hurt and create calamity. We can either speak blessings or speak curses; intentionally or unwittingly.

Activating Our Faith With Biblical Affirmations

Affirmations are declarations that we, in more modern times, have adopted as  a positive practice. They aid in mental health by shifting our moods and providing inspiration. Many use the mantra ‘speak it into being’ and use it as fuel to seek a desired outcome.

Now if words have power and if we indeed shift outcomes by what we speak, God-breathed words are already, inherently potent. No other words will be more powerful than His words spoken back to Him (prayer) and used to build ourselves up(affirmations)

Biblical affirmations then, are essentially scripture used to apply God’s Word to our lives. They are used to declare His promises to edify ourselves spiritually. We can use them as our weapon to fight against spiritual attacks and as an armor to prepare us to take on the challenges of our days.

We affirm them by speaking them aloud as a unique form of worship.

Stating Our Faith

On this blog, I will share my own biblical affirmations as I reflect on them during my quiet time with God. I encourage you to try this too. We can become partners in this.

You can seek out a scripture, reflect on it, study it, pray it back to God and speak it out loud as an affirmation to yourself.

I also post biblical affirmations on my Instagram page: @statingfaith.
