2 Samuel 22:50 is an awesome scripture that depicts why praise is always an appropriate response for us as believers.
Let us look closer at this verse today and see if we can demystify this whole idea of praise.
David made it look rather easy.
Let’s see if we too can adopt his stance.
Here goes…
Scripture – 2 Samuel 22:50
Observation
2 Samuel 22 is a song of praise by David.
In this entire chapter we see him sending up exuberant praise to God for delivering him from Saul and all his enemies.
He doesn’t procrastinate.
He responds in quick praise on the very day of his deliverance.
David makes a clear choice here in verse 50.
He is acknowledging the incomparable goodness of God.
His use of “therefore” to start this verse off tells us that he is resolute in his decision.
David sees that God’s mercy is such that even in the midst of enemy nations, God saves him.
God being the Creator of the universe is not limited by location.
He is able to bless, deliver and rescue His people from any situation.
David chose praise as his appropriate response to God’s goodness in times of trouble.
He resolved to praise God both in the depths of despair as well as on the heel of deliverance.
Application
2 Samuel 22:50 definitely holds practical applications for us today.
Like David, we get to make the powerful decision to elevate the role of praise in our lives.
Praise is truly always an appropriate response.
There is literally no situation in which it is not needful.
As bold followers of Christ, we can emulate David in making praise our default for all situations.
And we can definitely follow his example too in practicing quick praise.
It is very significant that David opted to sing a song of praise on the very day he was delivered.
David is revered in the bible not just because of his awesome exploits in battle but also because he had a heart of worship.
He was never ashamed to offer up praise.
So for us, even in the midst of people with differing beliefs, we would do well to take a Joshua 24:15 stance.
We ought not to force our faith on unbelievers but by simply delighting in praise, we provide perhaps the most compelling testimony of the liberty and beauty of the gospel.
Prayer to Praise Like David
Yahweh, what a wonderful example David is. Truly he deserved the title of "a man after My own heart" Holy Spirit, fill me up with delight and a fervor for worship. Remind me that praise is always needful. Give me the boldness to care not what others think. Help me to be more concerned about not offending You Lord God, than with pointless worry about people's opinion of my zeal for praise. Empower me to sing Your praises in spaces where people aren't even aware of their great need for You. I want praise to flow from me naturally Lord Almighty. In every way, every single day, I will worship You for You Oh God are worthy of my devotion. Let there never be a day that I don't rise to give You the praise You deserve. All glory, honor and praise be to You Abba, in Your Son's name I pray. Amen.
Song Choice
Today’s song flowed right through the ending of the above prayer.
This song is so special.
So deep.
It is just raw worship and thanksgiving.
Big thanks to the Maverick City for sharing this anointed song with us.
